For a tenth year, we’ve made a Christmas donation to our local animal shelter instead of sending Christmas cards to our customers and suppliers.
Our Head of Telecoms, Glyn Evans, visited Cheltenham Animal Shelter to present this year’s cheque for £1,000. The shelter’s General Manager, Pete Newcombe, and Assistant Education Officer, Erica Lake, were there to receive the donation. They were accompanied by Brownie, an excitable 11 month old terrier who’s been lucky enough to have found a new home in time for Christmas.
This year has seen the shelter introduce a number of new initiatives, with the aim of helping reduce the stigma of handing over an animal, and reducing barriers to leaving animals in their care. This includes the renaming of their “sign-over room” to the “gift room” – an initiative inspired by Battersea Dogs Home to help improve the process and terminology of handing over an animal.
These changes have been introduced to help ensure unwanted animals are trusted to the shelter rather than being abandoned or sold privately to unsuitable new owners. The shelter has also reduced their adoption fees to help remove more barriers to matching the animals with good homes.
Our Christmas donation is not the only opportunity we’ve taken to support the animal shelter this year. As well as this donation, staff have taken part in the shelter’s Firewalkies fundraiser, and have also helped the charity during an emergency when their broadband failed (read the case study here).
It was a real privilege to visit Cheltenham Animal Shelter to present PSU’s Christmas donation, and to learn more about the shelter’s latest initiatives and how our donation will be used. As we reach our 10-year milestone of supporting the shelter, we look forward to continuing helping them with their vital work in the future.Glyn Evans - Head of Department – Telecoms at PSU Technology Group Ltd
