Once of our festive traditions is to support our staff’s favourite charities.
This year, we’ve made donations to Cheltenham Animal Shelter and Autism Support Crawley to support their excellent work.
We’ve supported Cheltenham Animal Shelter for the last 11 years, and it’s a popular charity with our animal-loving team. Based less than a mile from our Cheltenham HQ, the shelter rescues and rehomes around 1,000 dogs, cats and small animals each year.
We were pleased to present our donation to shelter resident Oscar the terrier, and his human friends Beth, Nicky and Peter. With a slipped disc in his back, 13 year-old Oscar's been using the heated floor in the shelter's puppy pen to help ease his discomfort.
The shelter has seen extra success with the speed of rehoming this year, thanks to the implementation of a new strategy picked up from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Reducing the number of dogs on site from approximately 45 to 30 at any one time has provided a less stressful atmosphere for the dogs and more time for enrichment activities with the staff. This in turn has helped the dogs be happier, calmer and more suitable for rehoming, increasing the speed at which they can be adopted.
Our other chosen charity this year is Autism Support Crawley, which was suggested by staff in our Camberley office. The group provides advice and support for families of children with autism, and has personally helped our telco engineer Steve and his family.
Steve was pleased to tell the charity's Chair, Maria Cook, about the donation, which will be used to support the group's regular parent and carer meet-ups in Surrey and Sussex.
