Welcome to the weekly news round-up from our marketing team, featuring highlights from inside our business and the broader industry.

Industry news

The bad, the bad and the ugly

Vodafone and Three have both had a bad week with service issues. While a Vodafone error hit roaming customers, Three experienced a loss of service on Wednesday evening. Everyone’s delighted. Meanwhile, O2 has launched 5G in 5 UK cities… and Slough.

Fingerprints, faces, fails

In Samsung news this week, a flaw means anyone’s fingerprint can unlock the Galaxy S10 phone if you put a cheap screen protector on it. Absolute fail. Google’s Pixel 4 has also come under fire after it was revealed that the facial recognition feature works even if your eyes are closed, meaning someone could unlock your phone by putting it in front of your face while you’re asleep. Well done.

Facebook ploughs on regardless

Facebook’s been on fine form as usual this week, with #deletefacebook trending yet again on Twitter, this time in response to news that Zuck’s been hosting off-the-record dinner parties with conservative influencers. Facebook has also confirmed it won't ban political ads, even if they contain disinformation. And the fun continues. Despite warnings from the G7 about its threat to the global financial system, and 7 founding members backing out (with Dutch firm PayU the only remaining payment provider on board), Facebook’s Libra crypto-currency is still apparently full steam ahead for next year’s launch. Sounds like everything’s completely under control...

Service desk news

This week the team helped solve a printing problem at one of our customers' branches, and started on a workstation refresh and Windows 10 upgrade project for another customer. We also acted quickly to get a new tape drive shipped and fitted for a customer after their old one broke, enabling them to continue running backups securely.
